MSP Retail Openings & Closings (Q4 2013)

The retail market continued to improve in Q4 2013 thanks to very healthy amount of leasing activity in the neighborhood and regional centers. Vacancy continued to decrease from the five-year low of 7.8% to an even lower 7.2% by year’s end.

Cushman & Wakefield/NorthMarq tracks vacant big-box and junior-box spaces of 15,000-sf or larger across the Twin Cities, and as of the end of the year, approximately 43 remain available. This is in comparison to the 80 that were available in 2010. Contributing to this success in 4Q 2013 was the opening of T.J. Maxx in St. Paul and Marshalls in Bloomington. In general, landlords are investing time and money to reposition these large vacant spaces so they are more desirable to a broader range of tenants.
